I was able to watch My Amnesia Girl movie on it’s first day of release and I must say it’s one of the best pinoy movies I have ever watched.A rather moving story of two funny people turned couple that did not turn out to be so predictable despite being hinted that it’s a wacky “I lost my memory in an accident” movie.

This only proves how Cathy Garcia-Molina knows how to surprise her audience. From the out of the blue, experimental team up of John Lloyd and Toni Gonzaga. To the trailer that doesn’t tell you much but excessively used cheesy lines. Up to a false assumption that the movie, My Amnesia Girl had been copied from a Hollywood flick. Yes it’s a false claim! My Amnesia Girl has its own story. A story that is so good – it deserves to fair in the ranking of the Top Blockbuster Filipino films in 2010. That in order to pull off a box office movie, one must not do gimmicks.

When Apollo (John Lloyd Cruz) finds himself surrounded by friends who are beginning to settle down, he is faced with the possibility of finding his true love. It all boils down to one name: Irene. It must be fate then, when he once again sees Irene (Toni Gonzaga), his ex-girlfriend from three years ago with whom he had the best memories with. Apollo and Irene were a perfect couple until circumstances led them to fall apart. Now, Irene has no recollection of Apollo, having acquired amnesia shortly after their separation. Apollo sees this as the perfect opportunity to pursue Irene again, and be able to undo all the mistakes he made in the past, by offering Irene the best memories she could ever have.
True love is difficult to resist, they learned. Just when they find themselves ready to commit to each other, the pains from the past caught up with them, challenging them to finally own up to the mistakes they made and lies they said, and eventually realize what it is to forgive and forget.

What I initially like about the movie, even before it was released, is that My Amnesia Girl unlike any other Star Cinema movie had less promotions.Just simple, comic yet thought provoking tv spot teasers running on tv.And whenever I chance upon a teaser running on tv, no matter how many times I was able to watch it – it still makes me laugh.Yeah, I know it is silly to just laugh on something which you and I had been used of hearing a million of times already. But it’s just so funny! Therefore, the backbone of this movie is accessible HUMOR.

This comedy they’ve got in My Amnesia Girl is magically coated with sheets of colored paper with “Sobrang Cheesy” pick up lines and quotes written on them. Now let me talk about the cheesy lines in My Amnesia Girl.It is the movies’ most powerful weapon – despite being corny at times Irene and Apollo were able to pull off every punchlines so well that instead of faking a smile and raising a brow – you will have this “nakakakilig” na feeling instead.

The movie starts with a sensible monologue from JLC (Apollo).

Sorry for the spoiler! But I really want to share it since it made a lot of sense. And ends up with nonstop Cheesy Quotes Goodness!

Boy, how glad am I to tell you that it really met my expectations. My Amnesia Girl truly delineates what and how a romcom should be. It’s funny, witty and has an effortless romance you should always look for in a romantic movie. Acting-wise both John Lloyd and Toni Gonzaga were great that as the story progresses and each of characters are dealt with a seemingly awkward but painful situation; They managed to give the best reaction and tears for it to happen just like how you would thought of it to happen in real life.Whatever it is! It’s the best part of the movie (The dramatic confrontation!). 😉

P.S: You have to watch it before you get Amnesia and end up not remembering this movie exists! A must-see!
