Welcome aboard as we continue to provide the latest indie movie updates in the Philippines! An official entry on the Directors’ Showcase category in the 7th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and Competition is “ISDA (Fable of the Fish) by Adolf Alix Jr.
A movie based on a reported incident here in the Philippines, about a woman who gave birth to a mudfish.The indie film “Isda (Fable of the Fish) is starring Cherry Pie Picache and Bembol Roco.
The film is described as “an unconventional family drama that explores the limits of paternity and innocence in the context of desolation, poverty and survival experienced by the country’s population.”
A couple, Lina and Miguel, moves to a dumpsite in Malabon after living for years in a landfill in Pangasinan. Lina, the wife, is desperate to have a child. Miguel is working in an ice factory while Lina is goes scavenging nearby garbage dumpsite. But when Miguel gets sick and loses his job, he has no choice but to join his wife in scavenging. One day, she randomly found a Statue of St. Peregrine between the wastes and later she announced what seems almost a miracle: she is pregnant. But when she gave birth to the child, it wasn’t actually a child – but a mudfish.Since then, strange qand surreal situations cloaked their way of living.
Penned down by Jerry Gracio and helmed by Adolf Alix, Jr. “Isda (Fable of the Fish) Movie” is an intriguing account that will collapse the barrier between fantasy and reality in a true to life drama.
