Now here’s the second Cinemalaya 2011 Entry we will be featuring! A story that may have been inspired by the usual scenario happening in most of the hospitals and maternity wards in the Philippines during Christmas Day. Starring Ms. Diana Zubiri; with special participation – Yul Servo comes “Bahay Bata” movie helmed by Eduardo Roy Jr.

Sarah is a nurse at a Public Maternity Hospital. The hospital is abuzz with pregnant mothers of all shapes and sizes in different stages of labor. The hospital is short on staff on Christmas Day so Sarah is forced to put in a double shift.

Sarah observes the women coming and going in her ward, noting who is a first-timer and who is a veteran. Meanwhile, the wards are over-crowded : two women and their babies sharing single beds while those in labor are spilling unto the hallways. Sarah takes these all in stride, her heart and mind laboring over her own personal pains.

A teaser trailer of Bahay Bata is yet to be released but I’ll keep you posted at that when it becomes available.

Beautiful babies are given births in every minute of every day. Sadly, they seem to have been out dated in this over populated community. Looking back, when my Mom gave birth to my youngest sibling in a public hospital – I couldn’t help but feel sad and sorry to all the mother’s who are going through a tough time – even after birth.

Bahay Bata movie will be competing for Cinemalaya 2011 New Breed Full length feature!
