Regal Entertainment’s MMFF 2011 entry ‘Yesterday Today Tomorrow‘ was disqualified from competing in 4 major award categories in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. These are the Best Picture, Best Director, Screenplay and Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Awards.
In an interview with DZIQ 990AM Radyo Inquirer’s Kumpadres, Chairman Francis Tolentino said that the movie was different from the script that was presented to them.
“Yung pelikula pong Yesterday Today and Tomorrow ng Regal Films [. . .] May screenplay committee po yun eh. Pinag-aaralan po yung script kung ito’y sang-ayon sa alituntunin ng MMFF. Yung mga cultural, historical and social values na nakapaloob at yun po ay nakapasa sila kaya nag-qualify sila dahil dun sa script na yun. Subalit yung naaprubahan na po yung script at sinyuting na yung pelikula ay iba po yung lumabas iba rin po yung cast na mga artista. […] iba yung lumabas, Pareho lang yung title!”
He also said that producer, Mother Lily Monteverde, was summoned last Tuesday by the MMFF executive committee and while the producer called for her lawyer, she admitted to the violations. In the end, the committee “unanimously” agreed to disqualify Yesterday Today and Tomorrow on 4 major award categories.
Blogger’s Note: Although I am yet to watch Yesterday Today Tomorrow, based on reviews this film is likely to bag one of those 4 awards especially the best screenplay (since Jun Lana is simply good at that). But on the other hand, based on what the film offers – it’s still likely to win more in the acting awards! 🙂 It may feel unfair at some point, but rules are rules! 😀
