Unveiling the winners of Sineng Pambansa 2012!
Two “Q” entries tied up for the Grand Jury Prize in the First Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival. Filmmaker Gutierrez “Teng” Mangansakan‘s dark apocalyptic drama “Qiyamah” and Ed Lejano’s drama thriller “Qwerty” both got the Grand Jury Prize. And if you haven’t figure it out yet, “Q” means quality. In fact, Qiyamah also got the Best Cinematography award with McRobert Nacario as the cinematographer.
Actress Sue Prado won Best Actress for her solid portrayal of a struggling mother midst a river and a war-like crisis in “In Banka Ha Ut Sin Sapah“.
Best animated short film award was given to “Pagong At Matsing“by Anaylne Pineda and Cierlito Espejo Tabay’s “Walay Tumo’y ng Punterya” brought home the best documentary.
The Grand Festival Prize, the highest award in the competition, was awarded to Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez comedy “Mga Kidnaper ni Ronnie Lazaro” about unintentional kidnappers/film-maker wannabes who only wanted the great indie film actor to star on their movie. Ronnie Lazaro’s kidnapers won best actor(s) award. I’m sensing a pattern here..wait..the theme about “local film icons” in a fictional story is getting quite popular these days (See: Eugene Domingo in Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank and Lilia Cuntapay in Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay). You better watch out for our upcoming projects “Ang Stalker ni Anne Curtis”(Comedy), “Ang Nunal ni Nora Aunor ( Milktea w/ Black Pearls Commercial )” at “Ang Sigaw ni Kris Aquino” (Horror) – they will surely bring home awards!
Although not quite hyped to the extent that the 1st Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival sounded too celebrated. It was unfortunate that the event didn’t seem to make any valuable presence to most people in Davao until the Awards Rites, Sunday Night and Red Carpet Last Friday happened in Davao City. What have gone wrong? I honestly don’t know and I don’t care. In as much as I would love to cover the event, the media seemed like the least thing they needed. Great job FDCP! Here’s an honest post for you.
Screened on four big mall cinemas for 5 Days in Davao City, I honestly didn’t feel that the event is actually happening. Although, I would love to watch any of the films Sineng Pambansa offers, big hollywood films such as THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER are just hard to resists.
