Box Office – The 3rd best picture ‘Sisterakas’ is really breaking box office records with a P207-M box office gross in first week. On track of beating the current highest grossing local film of all time, Sisterakas box office gross was announced by Kris Aquino on the micro-blogging site Twitter where she twitted “Happy New Year Philippines! Thank u for letting Sisterakas earn 207.3M in our 1st week. Start your 2013 w/ laughs & GV- pls watch our movie?”

Meanwhile, Metro Manila Film Festival 2012 Best Picture ‘One More Try’ has overtaken the Enteng franchise, “Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako”, in the box office sales after 6 days.Proof that the franchise needs to retire! Unofficial figures reveals that while Sisterakas earned P193 million on its first six days, One More Try grossed P102.3-million.

The Enteng movie, however, settled with P82.9 million after six days in theaters. Ranking fourth is the horror anthology movie ‘Shake Rattle and Roll 14’ with a P63.8 million gross followed by the indie film – although  Star Cinema distributed – The Strangers with P62.8 million. Sosy Problems may not have a problem with their P36.1 million (because they’re conyo they may not care at all) but based on the costly production of El Presidente, the historical film is not doing well with its P28.4 million. Internationally acclaimed movie ‘Thy Womb’ is also having a hard time in the box office race with P9.4 million.

Early reports says that Thy Womb grossed P24 million in 5 days but highly acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza was the first to deny about Thy Womb’s unbelievable box office performance. In an exclusive phone interview with InterAksyon Mendoza said “As one of the producers of the film, I have the actual box office figures that I continue to monitor on my own. I have been complaining about this since three days ago when it was reported that ‘Thy Womb’ had earned P6.3 million in its first three days. That is not also true.”

And with box office reports becoming ‘padded’ these days we don’t know for sure if the movie ‘Sisterakas’ really reached the P200-million mark in the box office. The same applies to all the figures stated on this post! I mean, we normally cite Box Office Mojo as our source but we currently don’t have figures from that box office tabulator. And to have this post, especially the headline be based on Kris Aquino’s tweet may not be a good idea to start the year with our ‘Weekly Box Office Reports’. Least we credit our sources.
