Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) has revealed the list of nominees in this years’ prestigious Star Awards for Movies (2013). The list evidently recognizes Star Cinema’s 2012 offerings as the said film outfit dominated the list and even got into the indie film categories via Amorosa The Revenge which is under Star Cinema’s indie-arm Skylight Films. The list of nominees also brings back the clash between actresses Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos who are both nominated as best actress for their films Thy Womb and The Healing, respectively. It can also be noted that 2012 FAMAS Best Actress Anne Curtis got snubbed for her film ‘A Secret Affair‘. Meanwhile, actors Eddie Garcia, Jericho Rosales and Coco Martin are in our radar to bag the Movie Actor of the Year.

Dingdong Dantes might just become the dark horse among nominees for his performance in the MMFF 2012 Best Picture ‘One More Try’. The same goes for actresses Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin but Jodi Sta. Maria of Migrante might take home the award! In the supporting actors category I’d pick Cesar Montano in El Presidente and Anita Linda in Sta. Niña. As for the newvie actors which is a portmanteau of words New and Movie I invented, if I were to pick again, then Marti San Juan of Grave Bandits would get to bring home the award. As for the newvie actress, Dawn Balagot in The Animals is likely to get the award. I just have one gripe in the child performers of the year, why is Gerald Pisigan not there? His peformance in Chito Rono’s Pamana Episode was way better than Abby Bautista’s role in The Healing. Well, they’re both from Rono but acting wise, I think that child deserves a nomination. I don’t think he’d bring home the award though because of Marti San Juan (The Grave Bandits), Bugoy Cariño (Alagwa) and the ever amusing Xyriel Manabat (A Mother’s Story).
