Almost eight years since her last film, Gretchen Barretto (Matakot Ka Sa Karma) will be back on the big screen via Christopher Ad Castillo’s entry to the 2013 Cinemalaya New Breed Category –  ‘The Diplomat Hotel’. Most recently known as Ashi Behati in the recently concluded tv series Princess and I, Gretchen will take the role of Victoria, a disgraced reporter who seeks redemption in a place where evil lives. The Diplomat Hotel.

This great news was confirmed by no less than Director Christopher Ad Castillo over facebook.

When my project was accepted to Cinemalaya, I told Alemberg Ang who I thought should produce it based on track record and a love of film. And like anything worthwhile, it has been an intense march to fruition. A couple of days ago in my thoughts, I asked my father Celso Ad Castillo to give me a sign and show me clarification. An hour later, I received a message from Alemberg that he had been called into a meeting. That was the sign. The meeting was held earlier and I received the clarification I asked for. I always thought that only Atty Joji Alonso can help me bring my vision to life. And she brought with her the only lead actress that can define and truly portray a disgraced reporter’s maniacal drive to redemption in a place where evil lives. I am honored to be working with Quantum and Ms Gretchen Barretto to bring The Diplomat Hotel to life.

We all know Gretchen Barretto makes a great antagonist as evident on most of her TV projects and to have her cast as the lead would be a step forward to see Gretchen Barretto more often in the big screen. Seriously, look at her filmography from the year 2000 until present day. I just hope this will be the first of Gretchen’s many upcoming movies and Cinemalaya films.

Shooting will begin this April, about 3 months before The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival this July 2013.
