Singer-songwriter Kitchie Nadal returns with her enchanting voice playing over the scenes to her big screen debut. After a somewhat hiatus to the music scene, Kitchie Nadal comes back and reinvents herself as she tries filmmaking for the entry ‘The Muses’ in the first-ever CineFilipino Film Festival by PLDT-Smart Foundation, MediaQuest, Studio 5 and Unitel Entertainment.
The inclusion of Kitchie Nadal’s name on the official list of the CineFilipino finalist is easily the biggest surprise to the new Filipino film festival. In an interview with Manila Bulletin, the 32-year-old singer shared how her film collaboration with director Janice Perez came to be.
“Back in 2010 I was in New York for a performance and I met writer/director Janice Perez. We got to talking about film, about writing; so kinwento ko sa kanya this film I had in mind. Sinabi ko lang sa kanya ‘yung idea, tapos ‘yun, from there nag-exchange e-mails na kami and that’s how it came to be.”
The plot is inspired by the Biblical story of Martha and Mary; the movie tells a story of sibling rivalry in the music business where two sisters find the hidden truths about fame, family and their own selves.
In a similar interview, Kitchie Nadal also revealed that she will play the role of one of the sisters however made it clear that she won’t turn her back to her roots.
“I won’t let go of my music, definitely. Actually ‘yung film bunga lang din ito ng music ko. Galing din ito sa music ko,” she said.
In fact, the bulk of the songs on the film’s soundtrack are from “Malaya” her upcoming fourth album. The film will also feature bands from Cebu which brings music-themed independent films in the past years ‘Ang Nawawala’ and ‘Rakenrol’.
The festival is officially scheduled from June 26 to July 2 at the Ali Mall, Gateway and Newport cinemas.
