When Kris Aquino said she won’t be making movies anymore after the commercial success of Sisterakas doing an indie film might not have crossed her mind. In a recent press conference for Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 on Wednesday, the 42 year old actress revealed that she was already seriously considering an offer to top-bill in an indie film.
While she never mentioned the name of the project she mentioned that it’s for Cinemalaya.
“Sabi ko, ayoko na muna mag-act sa movies. Then came this offer, for Cinemalaya. And when they sent me the storyline, wow. Ang laki ng challenge because, I’ll get to kiss a girl sa movie. And the scenes in the movie will require me na i-shave ang ulo ko. This is from the team of Jun Lana who did ‘Bwakaw’,” Kris said.
However, from our list of official Cinemalaya 2013 entries, Jun Lana’s name is not to be found. And this leads us to Jun Lana’s entry to this year’s Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum called “Kuwentong Barbero.”
Kris said she was impressed by Direk Jun’s story concept. “Ang ganda! I like the content, ‘yung storyline, because it’s about female o women empowerment. Parang sa catchline nga niya, we all thought we knew her story, but let’s see her re-write it. Something like that,” she offered.
The words she used only leads us into confirming that she is indeed talking about Kuwentong Barbero which is a period film about the first female barber in a male-dominated small town.
If there is anything that we cannot confirm as of the moment is the film’s inclusion to Cinemalaya Film Festival. But with names like Vilma Santos (Ekstra) and Gretchen Barretto (The Diplomat Hotel) headlining this years’ Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, will Kris Aquino join the bandwagon?
“Naglalaban na naman my heart and mind dahil parang takot ako and yet parang gusto ko. [….] Kung hindi ako matuloy here, it only means hindi siya para sa akin!” she suggested.
What do you think? We think if Kris Aquino decides to do this project she will regain the respect she might have lost by parodying herself in Sisterakas in exchange for the films’ box office sales. And if ever, this is a step-forward for a more serious acting career. Additionally, Star Cinema might distribute this film and what do you know, this could turn out to be the highest grossing indie film at least – in case they are really dead set of counting how much is going on their till.
