Peque Gallaga’s 1982 classic drama film Oro Plata Mata has bee digitally restored and remastered in high definition and will be released by Star Cinema this March 6, 2013. In case you’re wondering what the movie title means it is translated as ‘Gold, Silver, Death‘ which refers to an old Filipino architectural superstition.

And while I haven’t heard of  Oro Plata Mata superstition before  – probably because I didn’t came from an aristocratic family or that our house has no architectural structure at all – I like the thought that we have or we’ve had this kind of superstitions. All along, I thought Chito Rono’s the only director who likes to use superstitious beliefs as a plot device. You know what I love our superstitions. They’re so thought-provoking! And I’m thinking about writing a screenplay out of one. 🙂

Plot: The movie revolves around the change fortunes of two aristocratic families, the Ojeda family and the Lorenzos, during World War II. From a life of luxury and comfort, to a still-luxurious time of refuge in a provincial hacienda and finally to a retreat deeper into the mountains where they are victimized by bandit guerillas.

The movie is starring Cherie Gil, Sandy Andolong, Liza Lorena, Fides Cuyungan-Asencio, Manny Ojeda, Maya Valdez. Lorli Villanueva, Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre, Abbo de la Cruz and Kuh Ledesma.

The film is considered by many as a gem in Philippine Cinema. In cinemas starting March 6, 2013!
