The healthiest and the longest rivalry in Philippine showbiz is probably the one between Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor. And whenever there’s a chance that the two would vye for an acting or movie award, their supporters would go against each other on endless online polls, threads and forums to compare their performances or most recent works.
Last year, both actresses did their comeback in the silver screen via the movies The Healing (Vilma Santos) and Thy Womb (Nora Aunor). The two got acting nods for their performances on the aforementioned films in the 29th PMPC Star Awards for Movies but it was actress Angel Locsin who got the best actress award.
While Angel Locsin did a really good job in One More Try, her victory prevented a nuclear war between Vilmanians and Noranians. Inconsistencies were present on the procedures of the award giving body however. The separation of independent films to mainstream movies either blurred the lines on independent and mainstream cinema or crossed the line for it the event should have ended with two acting awards.
But anyway, this year, things will be different because Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor are both working on their respective indie films. Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos, in EKSTRA/The Bit Player”, directed by Jeffrey Jeturian for the 9th CINEMALAYA 2013 and the Superstar, Nora Aunor, in “ANG KWENTO NI MABUTI”, directed by Ramon “Mes” de Guzman for the 1st CINE FILIPINO 2013.
With the becoming of these two films it is inevitable that Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos will emerge as winners on their respective film festivals and will vye against each other on other annual award-giving events in the future.
